Bespoke Assistant / Project Manager
Founded in 2014 the Hackney Draper is a multifaceted lifestyle and interiors shop based in the vibrant setting of Chatsworth Road E5. The shop has become a destination point for interior lovers nationally and internationally, stocking a wide selection of unique homewares and textiles, as well as its own curated fabric range.
The Hackney Draper offers a bespoke soft furnishings service specialising in curtains, blinds, upholstery and cushions. We are looking for a Bespoke Assistant / Project Manager to join our small bespoke team. This is a client facing multi-faceted role; whilst one side of the role will encompass sales, design and project management, you will also need to allocate time to build the bespoke social media profile and strengthen interior design contacts.
You will be a dynamic and creative individual with a keen interest in interior design and textiles to support your application. The position requires exceptional administration and numeracy skills with a keen eye for detail. This is a busy and fast paced role, offering a great opportunity in both the design and fabrication side of this young and growing company. The chosen candidate will be creative as well as highly organised, with a willingness to try new things and drive the business forward.
Full time on site at 25 Chatsworth Road, E5 0LH - initially Monday to Friday and then ideally Tuesday to Saturday, 10am – 6pm
Role:
- Be the first point of contact for all bespoke walk-in clients and respond to telephone enquiries.
- Discuss clients’ requirements and guide the client through the estimating process, using our online estimator for an initial example with in-house fabrics, including sampling from in-house ranges where appropriate.
- Produce detailed client estimates and advise on suitable fabric and hardware selections, liaising with our making and fitting team if needed. Over time, build knowledge on the extensive options available to best suit client requirements including selecting appropriate reference images to illustrate options.
- Book in appointments for clients to progress quotes and sampling.
- Project management from consultation through to installation: estimating, sampling, invoicing, ordering all products with final specifications, managing all production and installation.
- Manage bespoke social media posts and newsletters.
- Build relationships with architects, interior designers and magazines.
- Contribute towards extending the bespoke product offering and re-colouring the in-house fabric range.
- Be responsible for bespoke stock supplies and the bespoke fabric library.
Skills and experience:
- A passion for interiors, textiles and upholstery
- Exceptional sales and/or customer service/client handling experience
- Strong project/budget management skills
- Excellent communication and administrative skills
- The ability to multi-task, maintain focus under pressure and ensure accuracy and attention to detail at all times
- Knowledgeable of social media apps, especially Instagram; wider marketing experience an advantage
- A flexible approach and ‘can do’ attitude, with well-developed team working skills
- Textiles and/or interior design degree a plus
- Interior design experience an advantage
Freelance Curtain and Blind Makers
The Hackney Draper have built a reputation for beautiful hand sewn curtains and blinds with a heritage of traditional techniques, attention to detail and craftsmanship. Due to an expanding number of clients wishing to use our services we are currently seeking experienced curtain and roman blind makers keen to help us further this good reputation for high end products.

Part Time Fitter
We are also looking for an additional part-time Curtain fitter to work 1-2 days a week in the London area.
You will need to supply your own van, equipment and insurance, and be willing to collect curtains and blinds from varying locations and travel to client's homes to fit and measure for curtains, blinds, tracks and poles, including bay poles. You must have 5+ years experience and be prepared to work independently and take responsibility for accurate measurements. You will need to have fluent English and be a confident communicator in order to work well with the team and clients. Must be based in Greater London.
