Chik Blinds – Measuring & Installation Guide

Our handmade Chik blinds can be fitted either inside or outside a window recess, depending on your preference and the space available. Please follow the guide below to ensure your blinds are measured correctly and securely installed.

Measuring for Inside a Recess

An inside recess fitting allows the blind to sit neatly within the window opening.

Measure the width: Measure the inside width of the window recess at the top, middle and bottom. Use the smallest measurement.
Measure the drop: Measure from the top of the recess to the windowsill in three places. Use the shortest measurement.
Allow for clearance: We recommend deducting 1 cm from the smallest width measurement to allow the blind to hang freely without catching on the sides.
Check the recess depth: Make sure there is enough space at the top of the recess to attach the fixing hooks and operate the blind without obstruction.

Please note: The measurements you provide should be the finished size of your blind, including any deductions for clearance.

Measuring for Outside a Recess

An outside recess fitting allows the blind to hang over the window opening, providing greater coverage.

Measure the width: Measure the full width of the window recess. We recommend adding approximately 5–10 cm on each side to provide adequate coverage.
Measure the drop: Measure from where you intend to position the top of the blind to where you would like it to finish. We recommend allowing an overlap of approximately 5–10 cm above and below the recess, where space permits.
Check for obstructions: Ensure there is enough space around the window for the blind to hang and operate freely, taking into account handles, fittings and nearby furniture.

Please note: The measurements you provide should be the finished overall width and drop of your blind.

Installing Your Chik Blind

Each Chik blind comes with rope ties for attaching the blind to fixing hooks. The string ties are fastened through metal hooks or eyelets, which can be screwed into the top of the window frame or suitable fixing surface.

Step 1 – Position the Blind

Hold the blind in its intended position, either inside or outside the window recess. Check that it is level and mark the positions where the fixing hooks will be installed, ensuring they align with the rope ties on the blind.

Step 2 – Attach the Hooks

Screw the supplied metal hooks or eyelets into the top of the window frame or suitable fixing surface. Use screws and fixings appropriate for the material you are attaching them to.

Step 3 – Hang the Blind

Thread or fasten the rope ties through the installed hooks or eyelets, ensuring the blind is securely supported and hangs evenly.

Step 4 – Fit the Brass Cleat

Position the supplied brass cleat on the wall or window frame at a convenient height. Secure it using suitable screws, making sure it is firmly attached.

Step 5 – Secure the Rope

The rope can be secured by wrapping it around the brass cleat attached to the wall or window frame. When raising or adjusting the blind, ensure the rope is wrapped securely around the cleat to hold the blind in place.

Fixings included: Metal hooks or eyelets and brass cleat.

Fixings not included: Screws and any additional wall plugs or fixings required for your particular surface.

Important Information

As each Chik blind is handmade using natural materials, slight variations in weave, colour and finished dimensions may occur.
Always use suitable fixings for your window frame or wall.
Ensure the hooks and cleat are securely fitted before operating the blind.
For child safety, all operating cords and ropes must be kept out of reach of children. Install the cleat and secure loose cords in accordance with current blind safety requirements.
Always double-check your measurements before placing an order, particularly for made-to-measure blinds.
